In an effort to avoid confusion and include fundraising efforts for
all diseases or service efforts, the TABC board has renamed the project
“Hoops for Hope - Texas
Style”. The plan will be similar to the past four years when our member
schools have increased their donations each year. Here is the plan:
Step 1) Plan an activity for this
season. It can involve a tournament, game or a fundraiser separate from
a game. You can include boys and girls teams together or separately and
your opponent or tournament entries.
Step 2) After or during your
event, announce at your game what your players are raising funds for
(cancer research, local victims, other diseases or worthy causes). If
you can involve the rest of the student body or community all the
better. Any media attention, is also welcome.
Step 3) Send or give your donation to
whatever individual or organization you choose such as Coaches vs.
Cancer, American Cancer Society, Jimmy V. Foundation, Pink Out, a local
victim of cancer or any disease, The Salvation Army, United Way or any
worthy cause that is important to your team.
Step 4) E-mail TABC your total
amount raised and where it was directed. If you have pictures or new
ideas, send them as well. In the past four years TABC member schools
have increased their donations from a first year total of $19,000 to
over $73,000 in the 2009-10 season. During this
past season almost $90,000 was raised. We hope to top $100,000 this
year.
As we continue to teach
basketball and discipline to our student athletes, teaching them to
give back to those who are fighting cancer and other diseases will be a
valuable virtue they can learn as well.
