Benefits of TABC Membership

     Due to the TAKS test the board of directors has moved the TABC spring clinic to Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 2, 3 & 4. This allows us to keep the same weekend between the regional and state track meets, but allow those involved in TAKS testing to attend the entire clinic. The schedule is posted below and is very similar to the old schedule, but will start Friday instead of Thursday. The all-star banquet will be held on Friday and the games on Saturday. Speakers will make presentations all three days starting Friday evening and vendors will open their booths on Friday and Saturday. The golf tournament will be held Friday morning. We will list speakers as they are confirmed.

“Know your TRS Facts”

This session will educate you on options related to your Teacher Retirement System benefits.  In addition, it will answer questions on Social Security and different off-sets that may apply and give you ideas on how to maximize your pension.

It is a worthwhile session whether nearing retirement or just starting a career.

 

Kathy McConnell-Miller – Colorado Women

Colorado Practice Drills”

After rebuilding the Tulsa women’s program Kathy took over a 9-19 Colorado team.  In three years the Lady Buffalos rose to a 19-15 record and a WNIT berth where they reached the semi-finals.

 

Scott Drew—Baylor Men

“Baylor Basketball”

After serving as an assistant to his legendary father, Homer Drew, at Valparaiso, Scott led Valpo to a 20-11 record in his first head-coaching job.  Since then, he has taken the Baylor program from a Big 12 doormat to an NCAA berth and a 21-10 record in 2008.

 

Mike Carey—West Virginia Women

“Fast Break”

After 13 successful seasons as men’s coach at Salem College, Mike took over the West Virginia women’s program.  In seven seasons he has turned the Mountaineers into a powerhouse with 4, twenty win seasons and post season appearances in the last 5 years including this year’s 25-8 team.

 

Tom Crean—Indiana Men

“Offensive Concepts”

In 9 seasons at Marquette, Tom’s teams averaged over 20 wins per season and made 5 NCAA appearances including the 2003 final four.  This past April, Tom was named head-coach of the legendary Indiana Hoosiers.

 

Brad Stevens—Butler Men

“Competing with an Undersized Team”

Only 3 divisions I coaches have won more games in their first season.  After 6 years as an assistant to Todd Lickliter, Brad led Butler to a 30-4 season, a first round win in the NCAA tournament, national ranking and the Horizon League Championship.

 

Gary Blair—Texas A&M Women

“Instant Offense for a Shooting Guard”

Vick Schaefer—Assistant

“Aggie Pressure Defense”

A Texas High School Hall of Fame Coach with 3 state championships at Dallas South Oak Cliff, Gary has taken 3 different schools to the NCAA Tournament (SFA, Arkansas, A&M).  The Lady Aggies have made 3 consecutive NCAA appearances including this year’s 29-8 regional finalist.

 

Keitha Adams—UTEP Women

“ Competitive Practice Drills”

After a successful run as head-coach at Independence Community college in Kansas (127-37), Keitha has turned the Lady Miners into a nationally ranked program.  This past season, they were ranked in the top 25 and were a 22-8  NCAA tournament team.

 

Jim Christian—TCU Men

“TCU Defense and Drills”

Jim played on a Rhode Island, sweet 16, team for coach Tom Penders.  In the last 6 years, Jim’s Kent State Teams have won at least 20 games and made 5 post season appearances including 28-7 in 2008.  He was named the new head-coach at TCU last month.

 

Tommy Brakel—North Crowley HS –Boys

Implementing the Dribble Drive the the High School Level”

Tommy is the only coach in the 10-year history of North Crowley high school that has won over 20 games and made the playoffs each year.  His 290-56 career record includes the State 5A boys Championship and a 38-1 season in 2007-08.

 

Chris Kielsmeier—Howard Payne Women

“Howard Payne’s match-up 2-3 zone”

A graduate of Iowa State and former intern of coach Bill Fennelly, Chris has been head-coach at Howard Payne for the last 8 years.  During his tenure HPU had a 179-44 record including 33-0 national NCAA III Champions in 2008.

 

Ken DeWeese—Mary Hardin Baylor Men

“Transition Defense”

A former high school coach and 6 year assistant to the legendary Don Haskins, Ken was 404-105 in 16 years at McLennan Community College in Waco.  In 9 seasons at UMHB he is 145-89 including this year’s 22-6 National Tournament team.

 

John Ishee—SE Missouri State Women

“Philosophy, Inbounds and Special Situations”

A 23 year coaching veteran, John Ishee has taken 2 college teams to the National Tournament.  For the past 3 years he has lead Southeast Missouri State to the Ohio Valley Conference championship, and post season play.

 

Fran O’Hanlon—Lafayette College Men

“Passing Game & Practice Drills”

Coach O’Hanlon has spent the last 13 seasons at Lafayette College where the Leopards have won 3 Patriot League championships and made 2 NCAA Tournament appearances.  The program is known for its 100% graduation rate and 4-out/1-in passing game.
