In 18 years as a head coach his teams were district champs 11 times, appe=

TWC team won 30 games and qualified for the NAIA national tournament. Tom=

He was
elected to the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.

Cleveland 1977-78
 Ken Cleveland
starred at Coleman High School and the University of Texas, graduating in
1958. After three years as head coach at =
Sonora, =
Ken
became varsity coach at Dimmitt where he built a dynasty. During his 32 y=
ears
the Bobcats won 27 district titles, 10 regional championships and state
titles in 1975, ’82 and ’83. Coach Cleveland was inducted int=
o the
Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame and the THSCA Hall of Honor.
Ken’s life was cut short when he was struck by lightning in 1993. H=
e is
survived by his wife Libby and daughters Beth, Vicki and son Kevin. His
career head coaching record is 887-277.

 Mike Smith was=
the
head boys basketball coach in Victoria from 1972-1998 where he led the Stingarees to 21 playoff appearances, 17 district t=
itles,
10 regional tournaments and two final fours. His head coaching record is
644-221 (75%). He was one of the organizers of TABC and also started and
compiled the 5A Basketball Preview for 10 years. After retiring from
basketball in 1998, Coach Smith took over the girl’s golf program w=
here
his teams have qualified for the state tournament 7 times winning the 5A
championship in 2004. Mike and his wife Ad have been married for 37 years=
and
have three children and one grandchild.

graduating in 1971. In his 34 year coaching career he has spent 22 years =

high school head coach, five years as a college head coach, six as an
assistant and 1 year coaching a professional team in Venezuela. His career
record as head coach is 628-313 highlighted by three trips to the state
tournament including back to back state championships at <=

and 1984. Coach Brown was one of the pioneers of TABC and one of only two
coaches to serve two terms as president.

 Ken Loyd is another of the pioneers that helped get TABC

coached basketball for over 40 years. Ken has a head coaching career reco=

and two at Avinger in 1977 and 1996. Coach Loyd has
won numerous coach of the year awards and has =

coached the TABC all-star game and in July he was inducted into the Austin
College Hall of Honor. He retired from high school coaching in 2008.=

one of the original organizers of TABC and was helpful in starting the
Academic All-State teams and the state top 20 rankings.=

1989 he
retired from coaching to become director of missions for the Larry Jones
International Ministries where he and his wife Deanna have traveled to 68
countries on 6 continents. Hunt is currently the Immediate Past President=
of
the Fellowship of Baptist World Ministries.

One of his greatest rewards in coaching has been his personal fri=
endship
with the legendary John Wooden. Mike coached in and directed Wooden’s camps for 18 years. Kunstadt
and his wife Gerri have two married daughters, Karin and Kerri.

including the 1966 state champions and an 81 game district win streak from
1964-1971.

Dr. Charles Breithaupt graduated from Buna High School and earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees =

mar University and his Doctorate at UT. After coaching two y=

at Buna Junior High Charles was head coach for 15 years at Hardin-Jeffers=
on
(11) and Beaumont Westbrook (4) compiling a 392-92 career record. Coach Breithaupt’=
s
teams made the playoffs every season including 10 district champions, five
regional tournaments and two final fours. His 1991 Hardin Jefferson team =
was
the 3A State Champion. In 1992 Charles joined the UIL as Assistant Athletic Director. He was promot=
ed to
Athletic Director in 1995 and assistant UIL director in 2004. He and his wife Debbie have=
been
married for 28 years and have one daughter, Deah.

 Leroy Romines coaching career spanned 32 years with the l=
ast 18
in Longview w=
here his
1992 team won the 5A state championship. He retired in 1996 due to health
problems that necessitated a heart transplant in August of 1997. Coach Romines won over 700 games during his head coaching
tenure and served TABC in many capacities. He lives in <=

plays golf, plays with his grandchildren and attends Lobo sporting events=
. He
presently serves on the board of directors at E=

He and his wife Pamela have two sons, Jason and Brian, both of whom played

high school principal (4 years). In January of 2003 Joe suffered a stroke
forcing his retirement. He works part-time with Rockwall freshman student=

attends church and athletic events supporting his three sons Jared, Jonah=
and
Jacob. He continues his recovery with the help of longtime friend Randy
Talley.

Association and has coached in both the TGCA and TABC all-star games. More

Lonnie Gaylor earned his BS and MEd
degrees from Stephen F. Austin and his mid-management certificate from
A&M. He has coached at Nacogdoches, Marlin, Graham and the past eleven
years at Waxahachie where his teams have been in the playoffs 19 of the p=

25 years reaching the regional tournament seven times. His 1996 Graham te=

was state runner-up. Lonnie and his wife Myra, a first grade teacher, are members of the First Baptist church and have thr=

children. Son Brent is the varsity boys coach at Childress =

School. Lonnie enjoys spending time wi=
th his
family, playing golf and traveling and is known for his magic and card
tricks. He retired from coaching in 2008.

 Danny Henderson graduated from White Oak High School and Austin College=
before entering the coaching profession. He was head coach at Liberty Hill High School=
for 5 years before coaching the Peaster
Greyhounds the past 15 years. 12 of Coach Henderson's teams have
reached the regional tournament with 4 of those advancing on to the state
tournament. His Peaster teams won back =
to
back state championships in 1999 and 2000. His career record is
currently 546 wins and 144 losses. He was named <=
span

Sportswriters Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000. He was also named=
Southwest United States
Coach of the Year in 2000. Danny and his wife Anna have two daughters; Maddie 10 and Sophie 4.

included 10 district champions, 9 regional tournaments and two final four=

His career record is 712-289 and his teams have averaged 70% at the free
throw line. He says his greatest honor was being TABC president. Charlie =

three children from a former marriage, Jennifer, Jonathan, and Joe. He and
his wife Cindy have two children; Holly and Clay.=

Abilene High School and Texas Tech University, Ron Vick began coaching in
Lubbock ISD in 1984. After one year at Mackenzie Junior High and five yea=

School the Westerners have made 11 pla=

appearances and six or those were during Ron’s 19 years at the helm
including two district championships. His wife Kathy is Head Tennis
Professional at Hillcrest Country Club and is currently ranked #1 nationa=

by USPTA in both singles and doubles. The Vicks have been married for 24
years.

graduated from North Side High School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and played
college basketball at =

boys’ teams were 61-9 while the girls were 240-16 winning six state
titles in seven years. For the past 23 years Coach Lombard has guided his
Canyon girls to eight more state titles for a 30 year career total of
1000-92. Joe and his wife Babs, who won a sta=

championship as head coach at Hale Center in 1979, ha=

two children. Daughter Lindy is an assistant basketball coach at Colleyvi=
lle
Heritage and son Tate is the varsity girls coach at =

Coach Harding =
is a
graduate of Friona H.S. where she made three appearances in the state fin=

as a player, winning it all in 1964. After graduating from =

she
became assistant coach at Midway H.S., where she was a part of five final
four teams, including two state champions. She was head coach at Midway f=
rom
2002-2007 and coached four district champions and two regional tournament
qualifiers. Linda is in her first year as head coach at =
Clifton. =
She and
her husband Forrest have three children, Forrest, Jimmy and Tracy. The li=
ght
of her life are her grandchildren, Westin, Keeley, Kacy and Lily Kate.
